About Me
What is this Garden Party Show all about you ask? Is this another new dorky show? Well, yeah of course it is I am not going to sugarcoat it! Bio's try to make people sound way cooler than they really are. While certain other members of my large close-knit family are musically inclined I am a self-professed musical geek who loves to sing in the car, sing when no one's looking or just chill out listening to tunes after a long day while driving home from work on my 1 ½ hour commute. Music has always provided a backdrop to my life. Amanda , the host of The Garden Party is originally from New York City, raised in the Midwest now resides in the Seattle area. I hold an MBA in business and work in the world of finance. The Garden Party Show takes a narrative cue from the widely anthologized, short The Garden Party” which is considered one of Katherine Mansfield's finest pieces of short fiction. . Confessions of a radio dork- the listener stakeholder
Posted on 04 Feb 2012
We all are stakeholders in one form or another whether in our jobs, family or some format within our respective communities. How do we as stakeholders add value? Do we become the loudest voice in the room and promptly declare our opinions as the most valuable because we think this is this is the right way to achieve results? Of course the answer is more complex and involves some listening. How hard is it to truly listen today with all the numerous distractions we face in everyday lives. Technology has afforded us much but in the process of having the latest and greatest at times it seems we have lost how to listen. How do you listen? Do you listen more when you are an active stakeholder like at work for example? Do you listen more when you hear something you like on the radio or in the media? Do you selectively listen? I have to admit to being guilty of this at times especially after a long day. Can we as a society listen anymore in unison or in the age of iPod has the listening experience become so individualistic that is no longer possible?
Confessions of a radio dork - how do you define...a community?
Posted on 14 Jan 2012
What defines a community? Of course the answer is going to vary with people. A generic answer on what defines a community is a group of people including an annoying neighbor or two. Communities of today are so vastly different aren't they? We are not talking Farm-ville communities surprisingly I have never played nor do I have the inclination to play. Everywhere we look it's all about brands and social media but the question really has to do with more than metrics it has to do with engagement. Many of the communities we are familiar are created with tools like Face book and Twitter we use to connect but they don't define us as people. We live in age where whole communities are built around tools. Think about it! On this cold winter morning here in the Pacific morning which I believe is a perfect time for reflection I will leave with this question how do you define a community?
Confessions of a Radio Dork - here's to...

Insert anything here...:) Last blog of 2011 ooh the pressure to producing a mildly amusing blog about something! Maybe it's a female thing to feel this intense need to produce something of value...um, maybe it's just ME! Okay, I will buy that it's totally me the need to produce things of value aka a radio show that's a tad different from the norm genre rich commercial radio programs. Producing radio programs are not as easy as one thinks trust ME on that one! I remember one person asking me about the radio show this person goes well, do you talk about gardening??? I am like nope.. A garden is a beautiful place but talking about gardening will only target a specific demographic and that wasn't my intention. I love to garden and like most girls love flowers but this radio show seeks to be more than that...big emphasis on seeks..:) It's still morphing much like a garden. I read people's blogs, postings, tweets on music and their lives and draw inspiration from them. I know there are great unsigned artists out there and I want to make every effort to showcase them in the coming year like a fine piece of art I believe they should be shown in the best light...I am not into cramming music into a radio schedule I will leave that to genre rich other radio programs. :) Here's to an amazing New Year 2012!!! Here's to good health and prosperity! Here's to good music and less weeds ha ha! Here's to just enjoying life and listening to all the glory that surrounds us! And finally because this is a blog about a little radio show – Here's to the Garden Party Show growing in 2012 on www.party934.com!
Confesiones de un dork- de radio a ser o a no ser?
Posted on 26 Dec 2011
Confesiones de un dork- de radio a ser o a no ser?Oops sorry started writing in Spanish again my bad :) To be or not to be that is the question..Anyone for some Shakespeare? Lameo right? Las listas de temas de radio los aman o los odian? Oops did it again.. Music is subjective there is no way to please everyone when it comes to music being played on the radio it's just not going to happen. I know for me there are times I think dear God I actually liked that song what was I thinking? Look how personalized music has become today. Music perspectives are going to be quite different and guess what there is nothing wrong with that. I always ask random people all the time what they like in music and I always get a different response of course because they are different people! First response I usually get umm, are you like one of those Neilsen people trying to poll people. Heck no, I host a radio show two mornings a week on Party 934.com. Oh cool they say, than I proceed to say it's on a FM dial too in Hudson Valley...Oh blank stare comes on over the sheer metion of an unfamilar place..Umm, New York I say..Oh okay they say..COOL! I thought this quote was pretty cool, “ I've always thought of music as kind of a universal language. It doesn't matter if you don't understand the lyrics, the melody is always able to let you understand what the song is about and feel the emotions,” with music we feel something. In honor of a very special person in my life who celebrate's his 15th birthday on December 27th The Garden Party Show is pleased to present the Maxster's playlist to the world on The Garden Party Show!
Confession of a radio dork - Twas the Morning Before Christmas
Posted on 24 Dec 2011
Like a 5 year old waking up early on Christmas Day I think I mistook Christmas Eve for Christmas Day hence the early morning blog post. And yes even as a grown adult I still wake up super early on Christmas Day to open presents. You can't take the child out of everyone! This Christmas I celebrate the best present ever.... my family and friends. Family and friends at times provides the all important degree of support and love and the occasional dose of humor that life needs. The best gift of all I have been given already I am surrounded by amazing people. This Christmas I celebrate more so than ever before what a lucky girl I am! I had a crazy roller coaster year throughout it all I derived strength from the awesome people that surround me. That alone is the best Christmas present a dorky girl like me could get. Thank you all for the interest and support helping make my little radio show grow! Happy Holidays from The Garden Party Show!
Confessions of a radio dork - The Report Card

You know that first moment when you get your grades in school you take a deep breath and are like OMG I better I have gotten a decent grade or my keester is in trouble. I graduated summa cum laude from college. I am a super nerdy girl so achieving solid results is important to me! In my primary school life I could care less about grades but as I matured and went on to earn 3 degrees I found I am truly competitive. You learn early on in college to give the professors what they want if you want a decent grade. I learned that after spending a semester arguing with my economics professor for an A which I did get but this was after I had to work super hard for it as it's generally the case when it comes to most things. I was hell bent on showing the Stanford educated professor that I was just as competent as the males in the class he tended to favor. Try researching economic data on India and China over over a 10 year span it will take you sometime trust me on that! My professor's final comment to me was Amanda you should be you happy you with the A I earned and I was. Learning something new takes time and effort to truly master it!As in the case with my radio adventure I am well aware that I am in a super “newbie” status so at this point I welcome feedback because the goal is to get better and create a super cool listening experience. Like anything taking feedback and learning from it is really the goal here. I found through research today's radio experience is as individual as it gets. What I like is going to be different from the next person such as the case with radio personalities we all have our individual preferences. I am not 100% sold on sounding like an old school radio personality is the end all goal for me because it's a tad dated what I am interested in is of course is sounding polished and to turn The Garden Party Show into a cool unique listening experience! As I reflect on the year gone by I have to say this new radio experience has been magical for me because a whole new world has opened up to me and for that I am eternally grateful. This may sound super hokey but I am a dork so we kind of expect this... I was actual pretty excited to get feedback. Here's to continually growing and becoming a better show, better person in 2012! Happy Holidays!
Confessions of a radio dork - the social road less travelled
Posted on 14 Dec 2011
Hello world welcome to my random blog about something heehe.. today's novice lesson is about - keywords.. I am a serious radio novice like no tomorrow we all know this because I have blogged about it like a billion times. As I navigate the social highway I am continually amazed at curves and bumps along the way. I will admit prior to starting the radio gig never spending an ounce of energy on Twitter. I am like Twitter??? Huh? Oh, yeah that's that thing Charlie Sheen was ranting crazy stuff on awhile back. heehe.. What I have found in the short time I have spent trailblazing a rose petal garden path YEP, I was being obvious there with the garden plug! Keywords dictate where you stand with respect to the everyday peeps play a huge part in social media. Unless you are Lady Gaga or Charlie Sheen ranting crazy stuff, or you happen to be a super amazing typist with lots of time on your hands be prepared to use shortcuts. Google key words are KING my friends. Okay, so why does a chick like me care about social media well, two words internet radio. In a world filled with much making yourself known takes work trust me on that! Understanding important metrics is critical to achieving success. Just my little two cents about the social road less travelled.

I am up so what the hay might as well write some super amazing blog about something I am right?? HAHA. Believe it or not my blessed Momma will attest that I have been writing stories since I was 6 years old. I guess you could say I have an IMAGINATION go figure. After each radio program I go through my little pea brain and think I could make it better there is constant need to make things better because let's face it I am a listener too and God only knows there are plenty of radio shows to listen to out there so I want to make The Garden Party Show a pleasant not too sappy listening experience. This is not to say sappy music stinks just that there are plenty of stations and programs out there in planet universe in that particular niche market. My goal is to carve out a niche in a market with numerous players I know good luck with that one right?? There is always room for more because music at it's core is subjective. Correct amundo right??? Love how I spell checked this super amazing blog? HAHA I have become such a nightowl prior to the radio gig I was an early to bed early to rise chick now I am like go to bed by dawn and get up a few hours later. Sleep is for wimps..ummm NO.. Sleep is good.. Anyway, thanks for listening to my little show and reading my blog...Happy Holidays everyone!

Ughhh I hate that when I write pure poetry and than I lose it...damn computer..or user in my case...all my great wit out the door oh well... let's see how well I do re-creating my amazing humor... Love the title??? I worked all of maybe 2 minutes on it...thinking of ways to get your attention did it work???? Okay, let's see if I can keep your attention cause God only knows what I am competing with..the average user has like 5 computer windows open at the same time I heard somewhere..add in the other visual aids I am competing with to get your attention...Queen of super duper important facts..LOL..umm, not...so on to the super duper social studies 101 topic...of the day.social media...Social media??? gosh, zzzzz right??? Haven't we heard enough two words Social Network..Need I say more?? well, of course we need to hear more this is a blog...HAHA...As I venture deeper into this new radio realm I amazed at the mass commercialism of social media..not really amazed when you hear about the goverment getting into social media than you the fad has been around or predicted to be around for sometime..Ever been on Twitter lately??? It's like one big Valuepak coupon mailer you know those coupons you get in the mail on a Tuesday or Wednesday and generally ignore unless you are a super coupon person..Twitter is littered with people pimping out their ideas, causes, and of course seedy crap too..You do occasionally encounter a gem or two but that's after weighing through the oodles of information overload...Can you say SALE RACK? Seriously, it's like a department store sale weeding through the crap to find/read about a gem.. There are great musical gems out there Party934 peeps..Weed through the data/crap overload to find the gems trust me they are out there.. Have a great rest of the week.. Amanda
Confessions of a radio dork - reminder memo to me and half the planet

Memo to myself and the gazillion well, maybe one or two people that read my super amazing blog about nothing...(1) reminder to myself saying the word umm more than 3 times in a radio broadcast makes me sound like a Buddhist Monk chanting which is cool for the chanters but not good for a radio broadast HAHA (2) cutting myself off midstream while touting the super amazing radio station on air and all it's glory NOT GOOD for bizness...LOL..(3) Constant reminder memo to myself and the world to embrace the inner Tweet in me...because you know the world needs a little more Twitter from all of us...ahhh NO...well, a little in doses is always good right?(4) worker bee/ co-worker playing country music at the end day good idea should translate well into my radio show...HAHA joking not going to happen. Confession of a radio dork - the evolution
Posted on 02 Dec 2011
This week I had something really cool happen. I started this little radio adventure just about two months ago. Like a fawn learning how to walk I entered into a new world with just a love of music and an idea. I have been so pleasantly suprised how this little idea is morphing into something really special. Well, I had a local media personality out here in Washington State contact me. I was like wow someone actually is following me how flattering. HAHA.. It was one of those moments where you just sit there and think here I am talking to someone who noticed how much hard work and effort I have been putting into the show. It was so surreal to me to be sitting with these two women talking about radio, Party934 and ME. Megamouth Mindy and her very smart and young sidekick Hayley, who were a breath of fresh air to me. It was apparent Mindy reached out and took a chance to meet me as well. It's so easy to stay in a comfort zone and forget to take chances in life. As I sat there listening to these intelligent cool chicks I thought to myself a year ago I wouldn't have been sitting here talking to Mindy and Hayley because I was existing in a world that was comfortable to me because it was a known world but to be totally honest I wasn't happy. You know that first moment you meet a total stranger it's totally awkard.. They are like are you the Garden Party Show?? I am like thinking well, I do have my photo on the station page and I do technically have a name, Amanda but you can call me Garden Party Show chick..I am thinking HAHA... In all fairness the smart sidekick probably just learned about me 15 minutes prior so it was cool and funny at the sametime. Things change and continually evolve they always do much like a garden. How things eventually evolve is up to us to a degree. It sounds so cheesy but it's true. I really find radio and the idea of creating something from nothing intriguing and exciting. Reaching outside your comfort zone is sometimes a good thing! You never know where life will take you.
Confessions of a radio dork- Ode to Holiday decorations
Posted on 29 Nov 2011
Tis the season for holiday decorations and jacked up electric bills! HAHA.. I love holiday lights nothing gets me in the mood more so other than some snow for the holidays. My neighbor has turned his house into a Santa Launching pad no joke,. It's kind of like Keeping up with the Klauses around my neighborhood which I think is very cool. I live in state in which the main color of winter is grey skies so I always welcome color...Unless of course you live near the mountains in WA than you are more likely to see snow...I haven't yet run into a neighbor's house with holiday music and lights yet but I am sure if I put on my Holiday glasses and ears I might spot a Jingle Bell Rock or Two somewhere around the neighborhood. My neighbors were totally getting into the holiday light thing the other day by wearing santa hats I didn't look hard enough to see if they were sporting holiday sweaters too but it was like something out of the movies..I swear living in the burbs provides such colorful entertainment. Don't get me wrong it's super cool to have neighbors putting up lights this is way better than my single male neighbor hopping into a limo at 3am in the morning to take a trip to Vegas for bizness YEAH SURE.. The sound of his limo backing up woke me up one morning... I am like in a half sleep state thinking holy tamole PDiddy has rolled into town...I am like rub your eyes sister it's your neighbor..HAHA.. Yep, I am light sleeper. So what's your neighborhood like??? Is it filled with lots of holiday cheer? Or Grinches??? Well, my sinus cold tiny little brain has burned a brain cell writing up this super intellectual and stimulating holiday blog!!! HAHA.. Keeping the masses entertained with good music and humor as usual!
Confessions of a radio dork- planes trains and radio
Posted on 25 Nov 2011
Happy Holidays everyone! I love holiday movies sometimes the comical enjoyment of the movies mirrors real life sometimes. Do you ever feel that way? I love the movie Four Christmases I think that's what it's called the Reese Witherspoon movie where she and her hubby?? end up spending time with each of their respective family members after getting busted at the airport trying to head off to warm locale. I can so identitfy with having similar quirky family members in my family similar to the movie characters. Same thing with indentifying with the great classic holiday movies such as Home Alone and the great late John Candy and Steve Martin classic movie; Planes, Trains and Automobiles. The holidays for me is all about spending time with those quirky family members who add so much color and love and the occasional aggravation in our lves. I take the view that life is this blank canvas how we paint or how it eventually comes to look is representative of our own choices. If we decide that our individual canvases should be painted with Crayola's so be it. Same could be said with holiday movies and music everyone has different tastes its just the reality of the situation. My sister in law and nephew got up in the middle of the night to experience Black Friday I think it's a little extreme but what I thought was so cool is the simple crazy act of getting up early on Black Friday is a tradition with them and I love traditions. You have to respect that. I will close out this blog with asking you guys a question - what sort of holiday traditions or music do you guys like?? Let me know
Confessions of a radio dork-sleep broadcasting
Posted on 22 Nov 2011
Umm, it's after midnight and I am somewhat awake lol not like I haven't been up 20 hours straight but hey who's counting.... I am by day a worker bee so broadcasting in my sleep seemed like a great idea when asked to do another broadcast... Of course I am not really asleep but I am sleep deprived much like half the world. I figured I would sleep during the day when I pretended to stare at my computer screen slaving away at work..Yeah, sure! Umm, good idea right??? I am kidding again ever notice how I like to joke?? Laughter is good for the soul. The good thing about sleep broadcasting is you can do it in the comfort of your own home in your own pjs. NOT like that was actually happening...:) Hey but I do have to toot my own horn sleep broadcasting yielded some solid music like Miles Davis how perfect for a late night/early morning radio program.
Confessions of a radio dork- theme music
Posted on 19 Nov 2011
Theme music?? You ask huh?? What is she writing about now. Not feeling super comical today. Well, we all have theme music background that reminds us of periods in our lives. What I mean by this do you ever find yourself grativating to a song more so than usual at times in your life? A set love song, a sad sappy song, a happy song that reminds of us something that has happened both good and bad in our lives. Sometimes life feels like this giant snap shot compiled with smaller thumbnails. I know I have songs that remind of me of my first crush, my first love, my first heart ache and so on. Right now I had major drama unfold last night in my life my beloved Father is in the hospital ICU unit.Hearing this news has been an emotional roller coaster being thousands of miles away doesn't help. I got wind that he was in the hospital after turning on my cell phone and listening to a message from my step-Mom. You know they are certain phone numbers that when you get calls from late at night its not a good sign. Well, step-Mother wanted to alert me in case he "expired" she says to me I am like oh this not good to get wind late at night. So I did what any dutiful daughter would do I alerted everyone in the family because you never play around with life and death matters having a relative in an ICU unit is serious business. Sometimes it would be great if life came with a manual but that would leave out the fun, the pain and the feelings that comes through living. As I sit here and ponder my life experiences with my Dad I am listening to a track of songs(yes they are dorky sappy songs) to help calm my nerves about my Dad. Music provides this amazing backdrop to our lives.
Confessions of a radio dork- Cawfee talk
Posted on 17 Nov 2011
Okay, since I am catholic it's time to confess. I totally had another blog planned but I lost it because of the super duper processor in my laptop..Well, truth be told I have no patience so I clicked off the blog before I saved it. I am like noooooooo.. Being that I live in Washington State home of Starbucks so you know coffee was bound to come up eventually in a blog I mean screw world politics, economy and other things that require us to THINK kidding. Coffee and tea nature's morning nectar....awww.. So, I am rolling to work early stop off at the gas station with the zoo like theme. No joke a giraffe with santa's hat in the store I am like save a few bucks and just go to local gas station screw seeing zoo lights..HAHA just kidding but no joke there was a giraffe which of course was stuffed with santa apprarel I am like nice! I get gas and decide I have no intention of drinking the horrible coffee at the office so I stop at the local espresso stand not like there is a shortage of them in Washington state and order a soy latte. So, begins the great coffee discussion with my local barrista. I begin by saying my arteries have no intention of drinking any powered creamer and bad coffee. So the young barrista remarks that her Dad likes to drink microwave or instant coffee I am like dear God are you related to me because that's so my father too. When my Dad comes to visit he specifically requests high grade Folgers to nuke in the microwave I am like Dad no he is like no honey it's good coffee. Coffee is always black and luke warm with my poppa. Forget the girly frufu drinks its straight black coffee. I am like Dad how can you microwave that coffee its been sitting there for six hours oh honey its still okay. I am like ughh. So at my work my nice boss man likes to drink Folgers coffee I am like maybe he is related to my Dad wait no he is and older male so the need to drink drip coffee makes sense this is not to say every older dude drinks drip coffee but there are few out there. And there's nothing wrong with drinking drip coffee other than its funny as heck at least in my little coffee head, Since I believe in equal and fair time to discuss super important topics I plan sometime in the future to discuss tea which you know will be rip roaring exciting! HAHA Seriously, tea rocks.. I wonder if I Google'd tea songs vs coffee songs would the sheer number of coffee songs outweigh tea songs??? Quick someone Google this super important question and let me know. All jokes aside the week before Thanksgiving I hope everyone has a great upcoming Holiday and gets to spend quality time with their loved ones.
Confessions of a radio dork- wish list/early Holiday
Posted on 15 Nov 2011
I was thinking since I can't sleep and I woke up super early( before the alarm clock) that I would start a pre-Christmas/anytime would be nice wish list. I could be doing ten other more productive things right now like exercising, making bannanna muffins, cleaning the house or better yet saving the world instead I have decided to write a wish list cause why the heck not...LOL... Okay, so first off on my wish list is of course a problem free broadcast this will happen but needs to happen sooner I am a results driven chick!!!...I have succeeded in not taking down the station during my radiocast so I think I am off to a somewhat good start. I think???? LOL..Okay second, I have to admit my laptop drives me nuts so a computer that is not pre-DOS would be nice...kidding...Oh, my everyday wish is to find good decent music because I want YOU to tune into my super duper dorky but somewhat cool radio show...I could add world peace to my list but this is my selfish list so let some other good doer do that...If this was my blessed Mother's list she wouid add me showing up to church more often and let's face going to church is not a bad thing..Having a faith in a higher power is good but I am not feeling churchee this morning so on to my selfish list...because sometimes it's all about ME...kidding...of course I wouldn't mind my plants in my yard to come back in all their glory because pretty things are nice to look at you know what I mean??? Lastly, a normal guy in my life would be nice. One that understands what it means to be in a relationship...he must like music too.. Okay, enough of my self-contrived list, Have you guys started a list? Has anyone written to Santa Claus yet? I am kidding but never to early to dream, hope or wish! Have a great Tuesday!
Confessions of a radio dork- reflections of an informercial??
Posted on 13 Nov 2011
Well, earlier morning hours equates to infomercial central or super old cowboy movies which are cool I could do without the infomercials I am not into made for TV products sorry just not me.. I am up finishing up stuff for the radio station. As I go on this new found radio journey I totally can see why well known radio personalities have in the press sweated about how they came across. I am like OMG I made a mistake but life is about learning right I clicked by accident a little too early but things happen right? I am like did I talk too much?? When I talk about the radio program with my family, my older brother in particular is like how did it go?? He is like did anything major happen like did you pass wind on air I am like that would be classy with a capital K my friend but no I haven't yet. My brother is father to young sons so everything is about flatuence and video games in that house go figure.. I am kidding but passing gas is always good for a laugh or two in my book. I probably shouldn't have wrote that but it's funny. The goal of the program is make it for the viewer. I need to write myself a mental note to stop saying I love this 5 billion times in a radio program gets a little old but oh well lesson learned. Did the microphone crackle too much? I am like OMG you can totally become a neurotic mess HAHA Much like anything it's a process you know to reach that level where you don't sound like such a total dork but it's kind of fun going through the process. And what's wrong with a being a dork I say? :) This week 's show I thought went pretty welll like anything there is always room for improvement...in between watching the ten billion infomercials on at this hour I was fortunate to listen to my radio playback. Everyone at one point in their life should listen to how they came across it's really an eye opener. Well, I need to wind down this super so informative blog and say tune into next week's Garden Party Show on Party934.com!
Confessions of a radio dork- TGIF I think?
Posted on 11 Nov 2011
Hurray it's Friday wahoo...and it's going to rain all weekend in Seattle double wahoo...big suprise but it's Friday...Oh my gosh I hit the wrong button and deleted my superior amazing blog..STINKS but oh well. So this week was kind of well this week but hey it's Friday! HAHA So, at my little Office Space daily job we had a round robin discussion about music this week. What prompted this discussion was hearing Katy Perry on that Pandora thing I call snooze radio for the 50th time. Don't get me wrong listening to music on Pandora is not a bad thing but listening to Party 934 is better and yes I was being dreadfully obvious plugging the station as I should!!! Anyway, I am like dear God someone please shut my co-worker's bad streaming music down..My ears can't take another round of Katy Perry songs..So everyone laughs because I am amazing and entertaining of course at the same time...HAHA So, begins the deep culture talk at my work..first it starts with the fresh out of puberty IT guy talking about his love of alternative music ..like it was badge of honor..God Forbid he admitted to liking Britney Spears..I mean that wouldn't fit his predisposed mold he created..I was like knee deep in listening I mean screw working at this point I need to take notes and discover what the world especially my peon little office likes to listen to because thats what matters..MUSIC...Haha but it does..Anyway the round robin of culture talk continues on to include who has downloaded more tunes..The IT nerd boy that's what he calls himself no joke was like disappointed that some chick at my work downloaded more music than him..I am like girl power son...HAHA My little pea brain is just spinning from this conversation at this point. I am of course kidding but I was trying to contain myself from laughing because let's face it life is hella funny at times! So what I discovered is that women in my office do like pop music more go figure but they are not fans of Katy Perry I wonder why???LOL and that nerd dude that works at my job likes weird alternative music his words not mine.. Bringing the world more priceless information one blog at a time! LOL
Confessions of a radio dork- Can you say radio nightmare?
Posted on 06 Nov 2011
Blame it on the time change, blame on the newly configured broadcaster, blame it on the weather better yet blame on the dorky radio mixologist. Oh my gosh several minutes of dead air.NOT GOOD. How embarrassing I was like dear God help me better yet quick Skype someone who know what the heck they are doing since it's 1am and things have gone awry. Rough starts are always challenging. Oh life and it's challenges even at 1am in the morning. I felt like I was standing in front of audience in my pjs while they were all in professional attire. I am like please radio fix finally after several dead air minutes things got back on track but man it stunk especially since I had everything timed out perfectly. Things sometimes happen so you just have to deal with it. While I wish life would roll through perfectly that doesn't always happen case in point 1am radio starter problems..HAHA
Confessions of a radio dork- changing times
Posted on 05 Nov 2011
On this bright beautiful Saturday morning I was thinking about what to write about this morning. It's not hard to find something about everything on the web nowadays.Seriously, there is just too much out there but I guess there is an audience for super random or selective thoughts. Everyone always has something to say, complain, rejoice or sell because it's the American way.HAHA- capitalism at it't best and worst. I am like thinking I could blog about my week or some super cool thing I encountered that might go over well with the viewers. I could tell the world what a crazy week I had or about a sleepy little seaside town called Port Townsend, WA that I visted this week. Or better yet I could describe the oldest independent record store in WA state which of course happens to be in Port Townsend. I am like ummm kind of interesting.. I was thinking just before I walked into the record store in Port Townsend about those quirky little Hollywood movies where you always find an eccentric character or two working in them. I liked the fact the record store had old Clash posters in their entryway. Do teenyboppers today put posters on their walls anymore? HAHA - choice of words teenboppers - totally showing my dork side there..Seriously, are posters on the walls of musical idols I thing of the past or something retro cool that people are still into ??? All these dorky random thoughts running through my head so I am like umm not sure I want to broadcast that over a blog today. But than I am like why the heck not. Do I tell the world about the drywall repair dude that came to my house to fix a settlement crack? New construction... I am like even more boring I am like ummm what about the drywall dude that was interesting to me is the fact he spoke about his company that how his company has downsized from 35 employees over the last 3 years to 5 employees. Drywall guy works side work to supplement his earnings to help suppport his wife and kids. I am like reality we live in changing times. If you are fortunate to have a stable job, in stable industry with a well padded bank account kind yourself not the norm. The reality is we live in changing times and people are doing whatever they have to do to stay afloat I totally identify with this. What about you?? Has life changed dramatically or has it remained status quo? In this ever changing times it's so hard to stay focused but the reality is you have to. I really love about radio and music is it affords the everyday person a chance to think, relax, sit back and enjoy for a moment something we all should do in a our crazy busy lives should do!
Confessions of a radio dork- don't sweat the small stuff
Posted on 02 Nov 2011
A few week's ago I was talking to a male friend about how does he maintain such a level head. I am like how come you never get upset or angry? Even when I was trying to get him angry he would stay level-headed or just walk away. He said something so simple but brilliant. Well, he says I know that there will be good times and bad times. I thought to myself what a healthy way to look at life instead of being a drama queen just go with the flow. It's so easy to get wrapped in life's dramatic moments and think oh my gosh so much drama but things will happen in life just understanding that happen is part of life's growing process I guess. As I grow through life I am attempting to takeaway positive energy from others. Sounds so soap box but seriously there is a lot to say about being more positive in one's life. Seriously, we all have run into or been a drama queen or king in own live's have we not? Here's to be less dramatic and more peaceful about life.
Confessions of a radio dork- Sunday ramblings
Posted on 30 Oct 2011
It's raining and damp and almost November so no suprise to expect the wet weather has arrived but a girl can dream for a late Indian Summer...right? Okay, let's be realistic here I live in WA..monsoon season is a coming..just kidding but the rains are coming. I looked outside at my yard and I am like I should go prep the flowers for winter and than I realized I am tired..so forget that..Lazy days are good for the soul. Gosh, before you know you will be old and listening to more love.sappy songs than you ever imagined. don't get me wrong truth be told I crank a few sappy ones during private times....or relieving those glory days with an older rock hit or two. You know besides the fact getting older stinks physically there are some perks: (1) you get to sleep more and get away with it..so true you all know this... (2) you can get away with being grouchy..blame it on the age thing.. (3) if you forget something you can blame it on old age not the weather and people will buy it..trust me it works.. (4) tuning out people is easier when you get older blame it on the age thing..we all do it just think about it.. (5) you now have more memories and more life experience..what you do with it is up to you but it's there and if used well can be used for good causes.. Now, I feel better justifying myself for not wanting to do 200 things on a Sunday isn't that what the weekend is for? My blessed mother said well Honey since you went to bed at 3am maybe you should stay up and go to church because God needs to see you..According my Mom god needs to see me a lot..LOL.. God bless family! I can't believe it's been almost a month since I started this new radio adventure I am so loving it. Theatre of the mind is new territory..I am like Captain James T Kirk venturing off into new territory. Learning how everything breath, every sentence, every song creates an experience. It's pretty cool..Well, I think I am going to engage my right to enjoy a lazy Sunday and leave the 200 billion things I need to get done to Monday...
Confessions of a radio dork- different strokes for different folks
Posted on 28 Oct 2011
God bless ideas. that..everyone and their mother.have been giving me...especially my Catholic going to church every day blessed mother.. .When originally told about my new adventure moi family and friends were like right on..my blessed Mother..was like "honey, don't most gardners want to hear a garden program at 8am.Yes, blessed mother they do but I am WORKING so that won't happen besides the fact that I do WORK.. my show idea came from a short-story..but nothing like a good party or garden idea or two right? No one likes to see crab grass. unless you are Herman Munster..it's depressing. aren't families like a constant source of entertainment or what???. On-to the different strokes for different folks theme I was telling some friends they were like especially the males play some 80's rock like Judas Priest..How about 98 Degrees I say? Heck no...I am like okay I try to fit in all different types of music into my radio program..including a random music idea or two..
Confessions of a Radio Dork- the journey
Posted on 26 Oct 2011
So on my loooooooong journey/commute home I figure after logging a few hours on a daily commute I can qualify my commute as a journey. HA. Sad but true 2 1/2 hours one way is a long journey. Today I decided to venture into the public transportation world by taking a bus. Don't get me wrong busses are great and let's all save the environment blah blah blah..but you add in planes, trains and ferries and you have one long commute..So, in between my little site seeing visit of half of Seattle no joke the bus stopped on every block. I am like take the express bus next time..Problem is no express bus. goes by but oh well...Okay, enough with the whiney stuff. I saw some really great neighborhoods today like Greenlake and Wallingford. I was so admiring the flowers and the different gardens and of course the halloween decor as the bus poked along and stopped on every corner. Do you ever have yard envy? My goal is to turn my backyard into an English Garden problem is the deer and the other wild life want to keep it jungle habitat. No joke..lol..Anyway, in between checking out all the neighborhoods in the mother of all commutes I thought I would ask are there people out there like me who secretly covet their neighbor's yard?
Confessions of a radio dork
Posted on 23 Oct 2011
I am trying so hard to get it right with The Garden Party Show with two shows under my belt or if we are being super corny here under my flower bed...HAHA..I am learning how important every second is to making count in radio time. Trust me it goes fast sooooo fast but I love it! Last morning/night I loved my music selection I have to admit I sounded a little loud and cut off a song sooo dorky of me but I remembered to say good morning and I put together a pretty good musical selection. Hearing a playback of your voice is so cool but it's like OMG I said that..oops. I was so doing the Thriller Dance while it played. this morning on my show...Yep, I just admitted to being a dork once again but try it The Thriller Dance is fun..hehe Adding the bells and whistles takes time and knowledge which I seek to acquire.. I love all different types of music I just hate it when a station or show plays the same type of genre it's like 50 different ways of saying the same thing you know what I mean? Maybe some people like that and that's cool but that's just not me I like hearing all sorts of music.. Driving to work listening to radio I channel flip like no tomorrow. It gets a little boring hearing the same thing time after time..Keeping it fresh..at The Garden Party Show...
Lavender- this weeks garden choice
Posted on 21 Oct 2011
I love lavender I have it growing all around my house number one its super easy to grow and number two the deer hate it! No joke. I remember my neighbor was like omg the deer are so cute I am like trust me after you drop some money at Lowes or a local nursery and plant you won't love the deer after they eat your flowers especially roses. It's like deer crack.According to Wikipedia: The lavenders (Lavandula) are a genus of 39 species of flowering plants in the mint family, Lamiaceae. An Old World genus, distributed from Macaronesia (Cape Verde and Canary Islands and Madeira) across Africa, the Mediterranean, South-West Asia, Arabia, Western Iran and South-East India. It is thought the genus originated in Asia but it is most diversified in its western distribution. Its so easy you just have to cut before winter and bam next summer or spring your house will be smelling good and be deer free.
What makes a person cool?
Posted on 19 Oct 2011
I started thinking again which I do on occasion. LOL About what makes one person more cool than the other. Well, of course perception plays a huge part in the deciding factor. Just wondering what traits are in cool people. I am a total dork which I freely admit to being. A nerd girl that loves music. People who are perceived as cool are of course confident, defy convention think James Dean here, understand how to get to the top, are typically civic minded and of course are social creatures. Let's face you can't be a cool cat and be a total shut in or could you? I have lots of random thoughts can you tell? Check out The Garden Party Show Facebook page. Or you can email me at TheGardenPartyShow@hotmail.com Let me know what you think?
Long car rides are good for introspection
Posted on 18 Oct 2011
This afternoon as I was stuck in a frustating traffic mess in Seattle I started thinking about deep things like why was I drawn to the radio. After a really kind of crazy year with major changes both good and bad I decided what the heck I might as well try anything. As I sat in my car I started thinking no wonder why I was drawn to radio first of all my Grandfather did work on a radio show, I have other family members in radio too. Besides the famila--the Italian is coming out of me..radio offers an escape from the every day. It's an amazing form of entertainment that too often we take for granted. Gosh, how often have your turned on the radio to drown somebody or something out?? There is so much noise in the world the radio offers a world that allows to think and feel by using receptors ie hearing that more than often is blasted out with so much white noise. The old time radio shows people would sit around the fireplace and listen and gather as a family unit. I am seriously sounding old here?? But think about it more than often we all need to take a little time out of busy harried lives and just listen for a moment. Listen to something cool, something that will transfer us from our busy harried lives. When I think about it more I can see why I was drawn to radio. I didn't wake up and think gosh darn it I could be a radio host I was like what the heck I believe I can offer something different to listeners.
What is a Garden Party?
Posted on 17 Oct 2011
Let's start with perceptions..we all have them right? of course..Of course how people see things will slightly vary in some cases more greatly than others.Besides being a really good short story. A garden party in England for some is a formal stodgy affair especially if you get invited to the Queen's Garden Party..but come on it's the Queen of England of course it's going to be a tad formal. In France the President of France has a really swanky garden party on Bastille Day. Overall, a garden party is a celebration held outside typically a little more formal than a picnic. The garden for me is this amazing little place where I can watch beautiful things grow that I have planted. The world could always use a little more beauty as far as I am concerned. The garden can be place of reflection, a place of celebration, a place of memories. Ever morning I love to look out my window and stare for a moment at nature's beautiful bounty. Not a bad thing to do to take a moment and reflect on the beautiful things surrounding us. I am by no means a professional gardener or party planner. I am just girl who loves and appreciates beautiful things like a garden or an occasional garden party!
